Method

Summary

Sources: Every curriculum document is identified by plan, edition and printed copy. Quotations are taken from a named copy and linked to the scanned page, with the printed page number and the scan position.
Coding: Coded findings apply a published codebook to one subject section at a time: each finding records how the name or topic is mentioned, its weight, its normative force and the student activity, with an exact quotation and page.
Name count: A machine reading of every page lists named people and works with page numbers. It is not coded against the codebook and is kept apart from coded findings.
Absence: A plan is only said not to mention something when a bounded, checked page span was searched with stated terms. Everything else is shown as not examined.
Dates: Issued and in-force years come from the bibliography and from verified validity data. Years that the sources do not back are marked as uncertain.
Text: Original spelling and page text are preserved. Quotations and page text are never translated.

Coded: Acquired, and at least one subject section has been coded against the codebook with quotation and page.
Name count: Acquired and read by the machine name count; not coded against the codebook.
Text available: Acquired with public page text; not yet examined.
Acquired, text not public: A copy is preserved, but the page text is not published in the atlas.
Not acquired: Known from the bibliography; not acquired.
Reading room only: Digitised, but available only in the National Library reading room.
Not digitised: Known from the literature, but not digitised.
Searched, not found: Searched for in the catalogues without result.
Out of scope: Registered, but outside the atlas's boundaries.

Mentioned: The source mentions the name or topic; every piece of evidence has a quotation and page.
Word match, not coded: A literal match in the page text that has not been coded yet. A match is a candidate, not evidence.
Searched, not mentioned: A bounded, checked page span was searched with stated search terms without result. Applies only to that span.
Not examined: The source has not been inventoried for this name or topic. No inference about absence.
Text not public: The source is preserved, but its text is not public in the atlas.
Not acquired: The plan is known from the bibliography, but not acquired.
